Over the last week or so, I’ve started pulling together topics that I think will make for an interesting blog. Today, I was going to write something about gardening, but I wrote yesterday instead of re-potting herbs and starting a tomato plant. With the water shortage here in California, I’ve had to let my little square foot garden go, but I was thinking over the weekend that I’d do a few containers out on my deck. I like growing things, and that seems like a nice compromise between watering an entire garden and not growing anything at all. Maybe I’ll garden after work this afternoon and write about it on Wednesday. Anyway, my rambling point is that it’s proving difficult to come up with ideas I find interesting. Not only for you to read, but for me to write. I could join the scads of people reviewing every episode of “Game of Thrones” on Monday morning. That’s fun, and I’ll do it when the mood strikes, but I don’t want to do it every Monday for the next nine weeks. Repetition is boring, isn’t it? Writing about writing is good from time to time, but, if you’re not a writer, it’s BORING. I guess I’ll just keep up the mix of things and see where it takes me.
I just finished C.S. Friedman’s Feast of Souls, so I could do a review. Haven’t done one of those since college, so I’ll have to knock some rust off. I’ve been uptight about doing them, but I figure I want reviews on my work, so doesn’t everyone else? Not that Celia will care…Feast of Souls has 3,800 or so reviews on GoodReads. It’s not like I’m going to make this into a book review column. I can’t devote enough time to read to get even one book up a week, but when I finish a book it wouldn’t hurt to say a few things. Not counting craft books on writing, I’ve read seven books so far this year. I’ve been really helped by using Whispersync on my phone…lets me read some at night and pick up where I left off in the car. Not that I drive a lot, but I do go to football rules meetings and to see my trainer, so a couple of hours a week, anyway. That’s why I’ve really been focused on getting the audiobook version of Tempted finished.
Speaking of audio books, if that’s something you’d be into, drop me a line. I’m going to have a few free copies of the book once we finish it, and I’d really like to give them out to some folks who’ll give a listen and then write a review over on Audible. Not that the review is a requirement, of course, but it would be nice to get some real, genuine feedback. The same with my new book. I’m always on the lookout for good advanced readers, and will let you have an early copy of the novel for free if you feel like putting your two cents into things. It’s a work in progress (though slowly progressing toward finished), but that’s the time you need feedback the most. It’s not a bad deal. Well, not if you enjoy my writing anyway. Drop me a line, and I’ll get you setup on that side of things.
Have a good Monday.
